When I first started my internet business I made a lot ofwrong decisions. I chose the wrong web host and thishindered my business initially. I went for a big providerthat was not very flexible. If I needed something doneslightly different they would not compromise. Also theywere not willing to go the extra mile to help me.

1) Reliability of the host

You need to check the statistics of how reliable thecompany is. Do they have over 99 percent up time? Rememberthat your website needs to be up and running 24 hours aday. If not you will lose a lot of business. Also they needto have raid servers so that if a hard drive crashes youcan still recover your data.

2) Bandwidth

Many hosts limit bandwidth for a particular website. So ifyou have a big content website with lots of images you arelikely to attract a lot of traffic from search engines. Inthis case your bandwidth becomes an important consideration.Some hosts charge a lot less for more bandwidth.

3) Avoid free hosting

If you are starting a business it is very important tochoose a professional host. Your website represents yourbusiness image and if it has unnecessary adverts on or isdown then it will be unlikely that you will succeed online.

4) Big or small hosting company

Generally I have found the smaller hosting companies tomuch more flexible and helpful than bigger companies. Justbe careful that you choose one that will be around for along time.
